In April of 1973, eight (8) individuals who each led the Security Department at a New Jersey State College or University met to discuss forming a statewide organization to promote interest in the proper administration, operation, and development of college and university security and police organizations. The group continued to meet each year, the number of members increased, and the group was officially named the New Jersey College and University Public Safety Association (NJ CUPSA).

For more than 50 years, the NJ CUPSA has served as the voice of public safety for colleges and universities in the State of New Jersey. The Association is represented by police and security professionals who meet monthly during the academic year to discuss emerging trends, current legislation, and compliance and to enhance training for those responsible for campus public safety at New Jersey Institutions of Higher Education. NJ CUPSA is the leading cause for safe campuses throughout the state. Our police and security professionals are dedicated to maintaining the safety and security of New Jersey’s institutions of higher education. By uniting over 1,800 police and security professionals from nearly 40 Institutions of Higher Education, we work collaboratively to serve and protect the more than 400,000 students who have made New Jersey the home for their higher education. We are also closely affiliated with The International Association of College Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA).
