Award Categories & Criteria

A. Gallantry Star
Awarded for a conspicuous act of Gallantry
- Clearly delineating gallantry.
- Involving the risking of life and knowledge of the risk.
- Being of such nature that its omission would not be subject to any justifiable criticism.
B.Grand Cordon
Awarded for Distinguished Meritorious Achievement
- For acts calling for a degree of merit which, though not unique, must be distinctive.
- For acts of courage which do not meet the voluntary risk of life requirement for the Gallantry Star may be properly considered for the Grand Cordon Award.
C. Meritorious Service Medal
Awarded for Valuable Service Demonstrations
- Special Initiative
- Faithfulness, Perseverance
- Skills or Capability
D. Command Citation
Awarded for work beyond an ordinary or routine nature which is not covered within the category meritorious services and which is deserving of official recognition.
E. Administrative Awards/Recognition
This category includes outstanding or innovative programs in:
- Crime Prevention
- Community Relations
- Training
- Investigations
F. Heroic Action Awards/Recognition
All heroic actions must either take place or originate on campus. The degree of personal risk involved in the particular act and whether or not lives were saved as a result of the heroic act determines the type of heroic award and/or recognition that will be given. Heroic action awards may be given to civilians or campus law enforcement personnel.
G. Distinguished Civilian Assistance Awards
These awards will be given to any civilian who displays courage involving personal hazard in assisting campus law enforcement personnel.
H. Retirement Certificates
Recognition for individuals retiring from campus law enforcement or security with a minimum of Ten (10) years of service.
I. Campus Career Award
Twenty (20) years of campus law enforcement service.
J. Life Saving
Without hesitation, individual moved to intervene and render medical aid. Because of the thorough investigation and quick actions, this subject survived and was able to obtain the professional help needed.
